The Difference Between Innate Immunity And Adaptive Immunity

The Difference Between Innate Immunity And Adaptive Immunity

You may not be aware of this but your immune system has two distinct elements that make it up. Each one of these elements has its own purpose and its own way of working. We believe that it is important for you to understand these differences to be aware of how your immune system functions.

Innate and Adaptive Immunity

The two categories of your immune system are called the “innate immunity” and “adaptive immunity”. They are both essential for fighting off potential diseases and also for preventing them from getting a foothold. It is very important that you understand how they function so that you are aware of how your immune system protects you from disease.

Innate Immunity

Your first line of defense is your innate immunity. It stops pathogens making their way you’re your body in the first place. Your innate immunity does not go after any particular type of pathogen.

Often the innate immunity is non-specific in nature because it will target anything that it discovers in your body that should not be there rather than chase after a specific type of pathogen. Two significant parts of your innate immunity that you will be familiar with are your skin and your hair.

Your skin is vital as it provides a barrier for your body to the outside world. The skin does a great job in keeping out things that want to get in. Your hair also performs a vital role as it will trap different types of micro organisms and it is essential that you wash it often so that it is always clean.

If you have long hair then never put it into your mouth and chew it or bite it. You never know what kind of bad microorganisms your hair has trapped and you do not want these in your mouth. There are a lot of other internal parts to your innate immunity and one of these is mucus.

Similar to your hair, mucus will trap micro organisms as well. It will trap harmful bacteria before it is able to reach your respiratory system. Mucus is responsible for you developing a cough prior to getting sick.

Adaptive Immunity

You have a number of cells that will try to eliminate any foreign body that they believe should not be there. Your adaptive immunity works in a different way in that it responds with the discovery of a threat that has already begun to become a problem for you.

This element of your immune system will specialize in eliminating sickness using a variety of methods. This could be opening up a membrane or simply taking it and flushing it out of your system.

The most common examples of your adaptive immunity are T cells and B cells. These cells have memories and will recognize foreign bodies that they have fought in the past. This is great because they will know how they will need to fight against them if they appear again. When these cells see a threat they try to identify it so they know what to do to eliminate it.

How Getting The Right Amount Of Sleep Helps Your Immune System

How Getting The Right Amount Of Sleep Helps Your Immune System

It is very important that you get the correct amount of sleep for a lot of good reasons. One of these is that a good sleep will stabilize your stress levels and another is that it will help you to manage your weight. Getting the right amount of sleep also has a significant impact on your immune system.

Your Body is Working Hard when you are Asleep

People that do not get the correct amount of sleep on a regular basis usually end up becoming sick more times than they should and taking a lot longer to recover than normal. You need to understand that your body is still working when you sleep.

In fact it is particularly active when you are resting. It is taking care of those important maintenance tasks behind the scenes that are essential for you to stay healthy.

You produce Cytokines only when you sleep

A very important thing that your body will do when you are sleeping is to create and use cytokines. Cytokines are tiny proteins that assist your immune system to perform more effectively. It is only possible for your body to create cytokines when you are asleep.

People that are not getting the right amount of sleep are very likely to be deficient in cytokines. This means that their immune system will be a lot less effective to protect them from harmful diseases.

Sleep affects your White Blood Cells

Your white blood cells are impacted by the amount of sleep that you get each night. If you do not get enough sleep then your white blood cells will not be as effective as they should be. Your white blood cells rely on a number of hormones to change the way that they respond and their overall effectiveness in fighting foreign bodies.

The majority of these hormones are produced while you are sleeping. If you do not get the correct amount of sleep then you will have a lower hormone count which will lead to your white blood cells not responding as well as they should. If this happens any sickness will be worse than normal and recovery time longer.

Other ways that Sleep affects you

There are some other serious ways that sleep can affect your health. An example of this is that if you do not get adequate sleep then this can lead to weight gain. Being overweight is not a good thing as it significantly increases the risk of heart disease.

Ways that you can get more Sleep

If you are not getting good quality sleep every day then you need to take action because it is so important for your immune system and your overall health. One good thing that you can do is establish a schedule that you will follow consistently. In a way you will trick your body into believing that it must sleep at a specific time each day if you regularly follow your schedule.

As an adult you need to be getting between seven and nine hours of sleep each night. As well as establishing a schedule, you can try using one of the many sleep aids that are available. Take a look at what is out there and decide which you think will work best for you.

You Can Give Your Immune System A Boost With Garlic

You Can Give Your Immune System A Boost With Garlic

A lot of people think that garlic is very pungent and even a little bit gross but the truth is that you should be using it a lot more in your cooking as it is an essential herb for your immune system. You can even eat garlic raw because it is very good for your health.

There are many uses for garlic in cooking. This is because it provides a lot of flavor and it is a seasoning that has a very distinctive scent. More importantly than this, garlic is essential for your immune system as it will help to increase your white blood cell numbers.

Use Garlic to increase the amount of White Blood Cells

White blood cells are responsible for identifying, targeting and eliminating any foreign cells that can carry disease. They are your strongest defense against harmful pathogens. If you do not have enough white blood cells your immune system will be weaker and can be overwhelmed by infectious cells that will make you very sick.

So you need to add garlic to your diet so that you can increase the number of white blood cells you have available so that they can find any harmful bacteria and prevent any diseases forming in your body.

Improve your Blood Flow with Garlic

Another great reason to include garlic in your diet is that it will improve your blood flow. This is great for a variety of reasons, but particularly in relation to your immune system, because it helps it to identify diseases faster.

Your white blood cells are always circulating around your body and continuously on the lookout for things that shouldn’t be there and they will attack these. With improved blood circulation, your white blood cells will be able to move faster and more easily through your blood searching for threats.

Use Garlic to reduce Stress

It is well known in the medical world that stress is responsible for weakening the human immune system. When you are in a state of stress your body releases specific hormones that result in your immune system becoming less effective.

Studies have shown that the ingestion of garlic helps to stop the release of these stress hormones, which in turn will make you feel less stressed and assist with maintaining your immune system at its most efficient level.

Eat Garlic raw for maximum benefit

You will derive the maximum health benefits from garlic when you eat it in its raw state. We understand that a lot of people will not be very keen to do this. Let’s face it, the taste and smell of garlic can be pretty overpowering.

But when you cook garlic it will reduce this overpowering taste and smell quite a lot, but at the same time you end up losing some of its health benefits. If you don’t fancy the idea of eating garlic raw, there are a number of supplements available as an alternative.

These supplements do not have an odor and are also tasteless so it is really easy for you to take them and get all of the benefits that raw garlic would provide to you.

Boosting Your Immune System In The Fastest Way

Boosting Your Immune System In The Fastest Way

It is natural for people to want to know how they can boost their immune system in the fastest way possible. The problem is that people only usually take an interest in their immune system when things are not well with it.

If you have been told that you can boost your immune system overnight then this is not true. Having said that there are a number of things that you can do to provide a fast boost to your immune system, but you need to be aware that it will take time to see a significant difference. By doing several different things to boost your immune system at once is the best way to go.

Get a better Sleep Schedule

Something that you can do today to give your immune system a boost is to establish a better sleeping schedule. You can do this tonight and then begin to reap the benefits of this in just a few days of having an improved sleep schedule.

You need to be getting around 8 hours of quality sleep every night so that you can maintain a healthy immune system. If you do not get the right amount of sleep then the functions tthat need to happen in your body to help your immune system will be limited.

Cut down on your Alcohol intake

This might not be popular with you, but you can quickly give your immune system a boost by reducing your alcohol intake. There is a definite connection between drinking too much and on a regular basis and a significantly compromised immune system. The good news is that by reducing your intake or stopping drinking the damage is reversible.

If you are a consistent drinker and you drastically cut back then you will see an improvement with your immune system as fast as 24 to 48 hours.

Practice Good Hygiene

There is no excuse for not practicing good hygiene. When you do this it will significantly reduce your risk of becoming sick. Always wash your hands thoroughly and avoid touching your face. Keep your body clean regularly so that you keep bacteria and viruses away.

When you deny harmful pathogens entry into your body in the first place, you will not need a strong immune system because it will not have to deal with anything. You can never keep bad bacteria out 100% no matter how clean you are so always work on strengthening your immune system.

Switch to a Healthier Diet

You can make the transition to a healthier diet really fast. We are not saying that this is easy, but if you want to boost your immune system then it is one of the best ways to do it. Go for a diet that has a high fruit and vegetable content as this is best for your immune system.

Fruit and vegetables will supply the right micronutrients for a healthy immune system. If your diet is unhealthy then your immune system will not be as strong as it needs to be which means that it will not provide the same level of protection from disease.

Your Immune System Has 5 Parts That You Need To Be Aware Of

Your Immune System Has 5 Parts That You Need To Be Aware Of

It is not always easy to be fully aware of how your body works, so one of the best things you can do is to break them down into individual parts. To understand how your immune system functions you need to know about the five major parts of it.

These 5 parts combine together to enable your immune system to maintain your health and protect you from any dangerous diseases. Part one of your immune system that you need to be aware of, probably the most essential part, is the white blood cells in your body.

Part One – White Blood Cells

Think about your white blood cells as real troopers inside your body. They will respond to anything that they believe is a threat to you and then will take action to eliminate it so that it cannot bring any harm to you.

You have two main types of white blood cells and each of these works in a different way to protect you. The first type will attach themselves to the foreign body so that it becomes weaker, and the second will mount a direct attack in an attempt to kill it right away.

Part Two – The Complement System

The complement system is the second part of your immune system and its job is to assist the white blood cells. What it does is increases the effectiveness of the white blood cells in a number of different ways.

Your complement system tells your white blood cells to literally eat the harmful bacteria that they kill, which ensures that they are cleared out of your system. In addition, the complement system is responsible for the cause of inflammation in your body to weaken the effectiveness of harmful cells.

The final job of the complement system is to rupture the membranes of any harmful cells which significantly weaken them so that it is easier to attack them.

Part Three – The Lymphatic System

A crucial part of your immune system is the lymphatic system. It is also a key component of your circulation system. The lymphatic system works throughout different blood cells assisting them to transport specific things via the blood stream.

This is an important task for many reasons, but in relation to your immune system it is critical because it provides the highway that will transport and direct your white blood cells using your blood stream so that they can get to the infected area fast and perform their work.

Part Four – Bone Marrow

Bone marrow is another critical part of your body because it is the source of your white blood cells that will protect you from harmful foreign bodies. Bone marrow also produces red blood cells and also platelets which you need to harden any clots and stop bleeding.

Part Five - The Spleen

The last main part of your immune system is the spleen. This important component assists in the filtering of your blood. Your spleen will eliminate any micro organisms that it discovers in your blood and in addition to this it assists your immune system by producing antibodies which are essential to protect you from diseases.
